How to hit your first aerial

Your first aerial in four steps: hold boost, jump and pull back, keep boosting, then let go and meet the ball with your bonnet.

An aerial is when you fly your car up to meet the ball in the air. It looks hard, but the first one comes down to four steps and a bit of timing. This 24-second tutorial shows them on the touch controls, with the buttons the car pressed lit up as it goes.

Real gameplay, recorded in the game. The voiceover is computer-generated. Captions: CC in the player.

The four steps

  1. Hold boost to build up speed towards the ball.
  2. Tap jump and pull the stick back to tip your nose up.
  3. Keep holding boost, and you’ll fly.
  4. Let go just before you reach the ball, and meet it with your bonnet.

Practise in Free Play with ball focus on, so you never lose sight of the ball. The full write-up, with common mistakes, is in the guide: How to aerial.
