BonnetBall FAQ

Quick answers about BonnetBall: what car football is, whether it plays offline, what it costs, which devices it runs on and where to get it.

The game

What is BonnetBall?

BonnetBall is retro, physics-driven car football for iPhone and iPad. Two teams of cars, green against red, boost, jump, flip and fly at a leather-look ball and try to put it in the net. A standard match is 3v3 and lasts three minutes, and you play against the game’s own bots, fully offline.

What is car football?

Car football is football played with cars instead of players. You drive into the ball to pass, shoot and clear it, use boost to get there first, and jump, flip and fly to reach it in the air. Because the ball and the cars are physics-driven, where and how hard you hit the ball decides where it goes. BonnetBall’s take is old-school: green against red, a leather-look ball and old British grounds from sunshine to floodlights.

Is BonnetBall out yet?

Yes. BonnetBall is out now for iPhone and iPad: get it on the App Store. It’s free to download, and Android is coming later. For news about new seasons and updates, use the sign-up on the homepage, or follow @bonnetball on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.

Can I play BonnetBall on iPhone and iPad?

Yes. BonnetBall is car football for iPhone and iPad. The game plays in landscape and is fitted to every screen shape, with 60 fps as standard and 120 on high-refresh screens. Android is coming later.

Can I play BonnetBall offline on iPhone?

Yes. Every mode plays offline against bots on iPhone and iPad: quick matches, custom matches, the career, the ranked ladder, training and Free Play. A connection is only needed now and then, to sync your cloud save, to buy or restore purchases, and for the game to check the date when a season changes.

Do I need to sign in or make an account?

No sign-in is needed. After your first finished match the game quietly sets up a cloud save with a random player ID, never your name or email address, and you can switch it off in Settings › Account. If you want to move your progress to a new phone later, you can link Game Center or Sign in with Apple.

Is there online multiplayer?

It’s on the way. Online friend matches come first: you’ll invite friends with a link or a code and play private 1v1, 2v2 or 3v3 matches, with bots in any empty seats. Full online play is coming too, with public matches found by matchmaking. Every mode you can play now stays offline. How online play will work.

How many players are there in a match?

You play one car, and bots fill every other seat. Matches run from 1v1 to 3v3, and up to 4v4 on the HIGH graphics setting. Custom Match adds house rules, the ground, the time of day and the weather. Online friend matches, coming soon, will let your friends take some of those seats.

How long is a match?

A standard match lasts 3:00 and the clock counts down. Most goals at full time wins. A draw goes to overtime, and the next goal wins it.

Is there a career mode?

Yes. You take a club through an offline career: a league table, weekly fixtures against rival clubs and playoffs for the title. After that comes an offline ranked ladder, one division at a time. How the career works.

Can I play BonnetBall with a controller?

Yes. Connect a controller to your iPhone or iPad and you can drive and use the menus with it; the game shows a message when it’s ready. The controller buttons are on the controls page, and they can’t be remapped.

Can I change the touch controls?

Yes. There are five touch layouts to start from on iPhone (four on iPad), and a layout editor where you drag buttons to move them and pinch to resize them, then save up to three of your own. There’s a left-handed mirror, button size and opacity settings, and dedicated air-roll buttons. Pick the right layout.

Is it hard to learn?

The basics take minutes. First Steps, the two-minute tutorial, teaches you to drive, boost, jump, double jump, flip into the ball and score. Six advanced drills then cover driving up the walls, aerials, air roll, the half flip, recovery and kickoffs. Then you can take the pitch to yourself in Free Play, or work through shot challenges for shooting, saves and air shots and six advanced drills. PARK bots are a gentle start. Our beginner’s guide covers your first match.

What’s the age rating?

BonnetBall is rated 9+ on the App Store, for infrequent, mild cartoon violence. It’s made for teenagers and adults.

Price and purchases

Is BonnetBall free?

BonnetBall is free to download and contains ads. There are two optional, one-off purchases: Remove Ads, and a Premium Season Pass that adds a second row of cosmetic rewards for one season. The pass is one payment per season, not a subscription.

Can you pay to win?

No. Nothing you buy affects a match. Everything that affects a match is earned by playing, and purchases are cosmetic.

Are there loot boxes?

No. Nothing you buy is random, and every reward is shown in advance, so you always know what you’re getting.

When do ads appear?

Never on the day you install the game, and never before you’ve completed six matches. After that, an automatic ad may appear when you leave the results screen after every second completed match, never during play. Remove Ads switches automatic ads off for good. Ads are not personalised.
